Where does it come from?
If you live or work in North Yorkshire your drinking water may be supplied from a water treatment works taking water from a river, and underground aquifer or from a reservoir using our Yorkshire grid. Almost half of Yorkshire's water is stored in reservoirs, a third is taken from rivers (such as the Ouse, Wharfe & Ure), and the rest is pumped from natural underground sources.
To make it clean enough for you to drink, the raw water travels through a series of processes designed to remove the solid particles, chemicals and micro-organisms, leaving the water ready to drink.
Water is a very precious resource. To find out more about how we look after your water and how you can use it wisely, visit our website at www.yorkshirewater.com/drinking-water
